Why safety in the body is key to becoming your next level self
If your brain has evidence from past experience that something is safe, familiar, enjoyable, or that you’re good at it - it’ll likely give you the green light to do it again.
But if you’re stepping into something brand new e.g. a habit, a new role, a new way of being, your brain might hesitate. It might throw up resistance in the form of imposter syndrome, limiting beliefs, or that old familiar voice of self-doubt.
Why? Because it doesn’t yet have proof that this new way is safe. Our nervous system is always scanning for safety. If change feels too overwhelming or foreign, even if our mind is on board, our body might say “nope.”
That’s why, when we’re introducing change (even the kind that we know is for our highest good) we need to gently take our brain by the hand and lead it with care, compassion, and courage.
Because change, even beautiful, expansive change, can feel scary. It can be hard. It can stir things up and make us want to run the other way.
But my friend - and I say this from very recent experience - what’s waiting on the other side is so worth it. Growth. Joy. Freedom. A deeper sense of Self.
So, how do we carefully, compassionately, and courageously step into change - without flooding our nervous system?
The answer lies in gentle embodiment.
When we start being the version of ourselves we’re growing into - through small, daily, achievable actions like gentle movement, nourishing food, breath, and thought, we begin to rewire our nervous system.
We show it: this is safe. This is familiar. This is me.
From this place, change doesn’t feel like effort. It feels like returning home.
