Freedom From vs Freedom To: Reclaim Your Body and Your Life

If you’re a busy, overwhelmed woman, chances are you’ve spent years running on autopilot.

You juggle work, family, relationships, and endless responsibilities all while ignoring your own needs.

You think fast, move fast, and solve problems fast.

But when was the last time you truly felt your body?

This is where embodiment and somatic healing come in. Learning to reconnect with your body is a foundational step toward reclaiming your self-worth and cultivating holistic wellness.

Understanding Freedom From

Many women are familiar with the idea of freedom from.
Freedom from stress.
Freedom from anxiety.
Freedom from the feeling of never being enough.

Freedom from gives temporary relief, but often it’s a form of escape. It’s a flight state that keeps your nervous system in overdrive. It’s the mental scrolling when you’re anxious, the extra glass of wine to numb tension, or throwing yourself into endless to-dos to avoid sitting with uncomfortable feelings.

While it’s tempting to chase freedom from, it rarely creates lasting wellness or a sense of true presence in your life.

Shifting to Freedom To

True transformation comes when we focus on freedom to.
Freedom to feel.
Freedom to rest.
Freedom to be fully present in your own body, even when emotions are messy or uncomfortable.

Freedom to is about cultivating self-worth through gentle, compassionate embodiment practices. It’s about trusting that you can hold your sensations - the tension, the grief, the joy - alongside the light and beauty in your life.

When we embrace freedom to, we integrate somatic healing into our daily experience, allowing our nervous system to regulate and our body to feel whole.

How to Start Reconnecting With Your Body

The body holds the key to freedom to. Instead of ignoring, resisting, or suppressing sensations, allow them to be present without judgment. Neuroscience shows that fully allowing a sensation in your body for just 90 seconds can reduce its intensity and help you integrate it into your being.

Here are simple somatic tools to begin:

  1. Orient yourself. Notice five things in your environment - sights, textures, or sounds that feel grounding. This is going to help create a sense of safety in your nervous system before you begin

  2. Locate the sensation. Is it in your chest, throat, or belly? Notice its color, texture, or shape.

  3. Acknowledge it aloud. Say, “I see you. You are welcome here. Stay as long as you need

  4. Feel supported. Imagine being held by the ground, your chair, or a warm light around the area.

  5. Observe its movement. Watch as the sensation softens, dissipates, or changes.

  6. Offer gratitude. Thank yourself for staying open through discomfort -  a key step in nervous system regulation.

These practices reconnect you with your body, foster your own unique version of wellness, and deepen your sense of holistic self-worth.

Does this speak to you?
